Thank You

It’s been a busy few weeks; with a few Playdough Healthy Eating workshops at Happitots Preschool, plus work with Hove Juniors, Friday and Saturday bakes, and the first of our autumn Everyday Bread workshops. All this is only possible with the commitment of our fabulous volunteers. On Saturday, with baking at Pizzaface and a Farmers’ Market, there were ten different members of the community involved in making the stall a success. Thank you everyone.

As well as the volunteers, our bakehouse relies on the support of other businesses and people. The Hive have been with us from the beginning, giving us the chance to give people a central pick up point, as well as serving our bread, and hosting our recent Everyday Bread workshops. Like, Pizzaface’s oven loan, their belief in the project has been of great support and encouragement, and helps us as we look forward to the future. I’d like to say THANK YOU.

We’ve Been in the News

It’s always great when people recognise us and want to feature the Bakehouse in the news. We’ve recently been interviewed for both the written and radio press. You can check out the article written for the Brighton & Hove Independent by following this link, and our interview which made up part of this month’s Food & Drink programme on Radio Reverb can be played using the embedded player below.

Older Peoples’ Day & Playdough

One of the important parts to Stoneham Bakehouse is the way we work with the community; young and old. I love being able to share breadmaking and how it can have a beneficial effect on our wellbeing.

Last week I was lucky enough to go to the St. John’s Cafe and Centre, run by Impact Initiatives, to run a breadmaking session as part of the Older People’s Day. It’s always good to chat to people whilst we bake, and we produced some delicious chocolate buns during Monday afternoon, which were enjoyed with a good old cuppa.

At the other end of the age scale; I also worked with Happitots Preschool making flatbreads and healthy salads, and Hove Junior School using working with dough to support wellbeing. All of these projects have been made possible through funding Stoneham Bakehouse has secured from various bodies. We continue to look to provide this kind of session to members of the communtiy, spreading the therapeutic nature of working with dough.

Introducing Goodmoney

goodmoney-logoWe are really excited to announce that we will be taking Goodmoney vouchers at Stoneham Bakehouse. The Bakehouse is really keen to be involved with this scheme, which looks to support local businesses and encourage money to be spent in Brighton & Hove. It has a particular focus on social enterprises which will benefit the people of our city, but their directory contains many more local businesses.

Vouchers are available online now, as well as direct from Brighton’s brilliant ethical supermarket, HiSbe, on London Road.

Anyway, it’s best explained by the guys at Good Money themselves. Check out this video below.

Bread Workshops at The Hive

Everyday breadWe’re very excited to announce that we will be running three workshops at The Hive this autumn. Our ever popular Everyday Bread workshop will run on the 19th October, 16th November, and 14th December between 6-10pm.

In these workshops we’ll look at basic breadmaking techniques, and simple recipes for baking everyday bread. The session will take you through the kneading, fermenting and proving processes, and give tips to help you bake a successful loaf each time. Suitable for beginnners or those who have baked a bit of bread at home; we’ll make two doughs during the workshop, producing different loaves and rolls to eat and take home. A light seasonal meal will be provided to accompany the bread we’ll make. You will also receive copies of the recipes to take home and continue your journey baking Everyday Bread.

If you’re interested in coming along, please email workshops@stonehambakehouse.org.uk for any additional information, or register online by clicking the link below.
