Spring Workshops

After the success of our Everyday Bread workshops over the last few months, we’ve added more to the calendar in the upcoming Spring months. As well as a good way to learn breadmaking techniques, the evenings are a great chance to meet people and chat. Do check out further details on the workshops part of the website.

In addition, we’re running a Hot Cross Bun workshop at the start of March. Come along for an evening of bun making. We’ll make a batch of Hot Cross Buns to take home, as well as enjoy a light supper, chat , and some other Easter bread to make.

Playdough Returns to Hove Junior School

We’re really pleased to announce that we have secured further funding from Brighton & Hove CCG for our innovative Playdough project with Hove Junior School.

The additional funding will mean we can continue to use the power of working with dough to support children’s wellbeing at Hove Junior School for the rest of the year. Using each of the NEF’s 5 Ways to Wellbeing as a focus to sessions, we encourage children to be mindful, through making bread. We connect with each other as a group, we’re active whilst kneading, we take notice as the dough develops, keep learning new techniques, and give bread to family and friends.

Elephant To Deliver Bread & Wellbeing

elephant bikeWe’re pitching at Brighton Soup on Friday 19th February. Our pitch is for money to get a small delivery bike; a reconditioned Royal Mail bike. The brilliant team at Elephant Bikes take old postal bikes, replace any old parts, respray, then sell them on. Working with HM Prisons, the work is carried out by youg offenders who are developing their employment skills by helping Elephant Bikes to refurbish the bicycles.

So, we get a bike to deliver bread, and breadmaking workshops supporting wellbeing; and in addition Elephant Bikes send a bike to Malawi for people to use to get to school, set up a business, or even keep elephants safe from poachers.

If you’re interested in coming along to the Brighton Soup event, tickets are available through their website. We’d love to see you there…the more the merrier.

Soup & Stoneham Bakehouse

brighton soupSoup is a fantastic partner to our bread. Many of you have told us how our bread regularly accompanies your homemade broth, and it’s always on the menu at The Hive.

As you know, as a community organisation, we’re always looking for funding to support our efforts to bring bread to the local community. We’re really excited to announce we’ve been selected to pitch at the next Brighton Soup on the 19th February; a community funding event.

It’s a fun, community,Β Dragon’s Den, where you get to be a Dragon.

The soup part refers to the food provided in return for listening to, and voting for, the four pitches by community organisations. It’s all based on an original idea from Detroit. The BBC made this short film about it, and they versions of Detroit Soup have been popping up all over the place, including our very own Brighton.

If you’re interested in getting a ticket and coming along, or finding out more about Brighton Soup, then visit their website. We’d love to see some of you there supporting Simon’s pitch.
