We've just finished the bake, and we'll be opening the doors very soon. Head down here to get yourself a Saturday loaf, bagel, focaccia, or bun. It's a great way to start the weekend, and has the added bonus of helping us to support the wellbeing of the community. Everything you buy helps us do this, so thank you!

It's #BreadShed this morning, and we're gathering to spend time together, chat, listen, and bake. Over time relationships are built, and support is given through friendship.

What are you doing on an autumnal evening?

👨‍🏫 We've got one of our baking workshops tonight. This week it's all about olive oil breads. There are still a few places available on our programme of workshops for the rest of 2026. Head over to Eventbrite (link in bio) for more details and to see what's available.

👀 We're in the process of planning workshops for Winter/Spring 2027, so if there aren't spaces in the coming months, we'll have new dates and new workshops published in the next month or so, so keep your eyes peeled.

We've got the start of another Baking & Bereavement group this morning, with a small group of people gathering at the Bakehouse to talk, bake bread, and connect.

It's World Mental Health day today, with this year

It's World Mental Health day today, with this year's theme being "Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change". So, I (Simon) thought I'd share my story, and how I got to, with others, open Stoneham Bakehouse.

Back in 2012-13, as a teacher of 15 years, I became ill with stress, depression, and anxiety. I was finding life really hard, and after periods off work, I decided to leave teaching to get myself well. WIth the aid of talking therapy and medication, I'd managed to get myself in a bit of a better place, when my doctor suggested learning a new skill. I chose to learn to bake bread, and with teaching and guidance from @community_chef, I found it was a massive help to my wellbeing. I could bake a decent loaf of bread, but more than that I learnt to take notice of the changes in the dough, to take pride in what I produced, to want to share this with others. And so the seeds of what would become Stoneham Bakehouse were sown.

It's this lived experience of mental health difficulties, and the effect baking had on me, which is at the heart of our emphasis on wellbeing as well as breadmaking. It's a big reason we want to help others with our Baking for Wellbeing and Baking & Bereavement programmes.
